The Moth Man of San AndreasRemember the good old days of playing the PS2 era GTA games? Remember the excitement leading up to the release of GTA IV? Hell, maybe like I do, you can even remember the hype around the launch of GTA III. GTA in full 3D?? Sign me the fuck up! Later, when GTA Sand Andreas came out, I got really into the myth hunting subculture. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I'm referring to the people that search for and document evidence of weird or supernatural things in the GTA games, like Bigfoot, UFOs, you get the idea right? Maybe you've even seen the videos before with the X-Files theme song over a low quality screen recording of some San Andreas gameplay. I even used to make videos like this on an old youtube channel (no I won't post the link.) I wasn't sure whether to post this in the gaming section or the weird section but I wanted to post something in the weird section so it ended up here. Well the topic of today's article happens to be about the Moth Man of San Andreas. Of course, you probably already knew that from reading the title of the article. "Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads!" The Moth Man is an old folk-tale originating from Virginia. The Moth Man is supposed to be a large creature resembling a moth combined with the human form. I'm unsure when exactly the Moth Man legends started to pop up among the GTA myth hunting community, but I definitely remember it being one of the later rumors to surface. People were already well underway in their search for Bigfoot, Leatherface and aliens among the wilds of San Andreas when the rumors of a Moth Man in the game appeared. Some players apparently report seeing the Moth Man after pedestrians have died in-game, other people say he can be seen flying high above the hills and backwoods of rural San Andreas. Although it's entirely possible that these sightings are simply planes in the sky, or maybe even UFOs, but that's a topic for another day. In-game evidence for the Moth Man's existence are extremely scarce, and I know the game has been data-mined to death at this point. But it's fun to speculate, right? So what evidence does exist in-game? Well like I said, not a lot unfortunately. At the Sherman Dam located in the Bone County region of the map, there are some random statues with wings. Some people have seemingly taken this as concrete evidence of the creature's in-game existence. In my opinion though, I think it's all just coincidental. In the future I'll be examining some more San Andreas myths. |
